2010 Best Buys: InterVin Announces its Top-Scoring Value Wines

Thirty wines received the Judges’ Award for Best Value at the 2010 InterVin International Wine Awards, an intensive three-day competition conducted last month at White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The value citation was bestowed on wines receiving high scores from InterVin judges that retail for $15 or less. The 30 selections — five of which are priced at $10 or under per bottle — hail from all corners of the globe, including strong representation from Australia, Canada and Spain.

“Value is always front of mind for wine lovers,” says Christopher Waters, editor of VINES Magazine and head judge of the InterVin International Wine Awards. “For casual consumers and connoisseurs alike, there’s endless interest in knowing which wines are both amazing and affordable.”

Internationally acclaimed sommeliers Sara d’Amato and April Kilpatrick, respected wine writers Daenna Van Mulligen and Margaret Swaine and talented winemakers Thomas Bachelder and Paul Pender were part of a 16-member judging panel that tasted through more than 960 submissions during the competition.
